Hike 1: Parc national de la Jacques-Cartier – La Tourbière trail

Parc national de la Jacques-Cartier, just 30 minutes from Quebec City, is a natural gem offering a multitude of outdoor activities all year round. Among its many trails, the Sentier de la Tourbière stands out for its accessibility and the richness of its scenery.

This 2.9 km loop trail is rated easy, making it ideal for families and hikers of all levels. The trail begins along the peaceful Jacques-Cartier River. The trail then passes through a forest of spruce and birch, before leading to a picturesque peat bog with a unique ecosystem and varied vegetation.

Accessible in all seasons, the Sentier de la Tourbière allows visitors to discover the different facets of the park, whether under snow in winter or in full bloom in spring and summer.

Hiking 2: Parc naturel régional de Portneuf – Les Portes de l’Enfer trail

 

Parc naturel régional de Portneuf, about an hour from Quebec City, is a haven of unspoilt nature. Among its trails, the Sentier des Portes de l’Enfer offers a varied itinerary and impressive scenery.

This 5.9 km loop, rated intermediate, passes through a mixed forest before reaching the Portes de l’Enfer: a natural canyon offering spectacular panoramic views. In winter, the trail is ideal for snowshoeing, with its forest passages and unobstructed views of the snow-covered landscape. For the more adventurous, other trails of varying lengths and levels of difficulty are also available.

A heated relay station is available on site for a well-deserved break before setting off again.

Hiking 3: Caps de Charlevoix – Sentier Jalbert

 

The Sentier Jalbert, nestled in the heart of the Caps de Charlevoix, is an ideal trail for those seeking both a sporting challenge and spectacular views of the Saint Laurent River.

This 9.1 km route, rated intermediate to difficult, skirts the capes between the Cap-Brûlé and La-Chute lookouts, regularly offering spectacular views of the river. Passing through an ancient forest with century-old trees, the trail combines technical sections with gentler passages, guaranteeing an immersive experience in the heart of nature.

Ideal in all seasons, the Sentier Jalbert transforms itself in winter into a superb snowshoeing itinerary, with its hushed ambience and breathtaking snow-covered landscapes.
